12 ἐν ᾧ ἔχομεν τὴν παρρησίαν καὶ προσαγωγὴν ἐν πεποιθήσει διὰ τῆς πίστεως αὐτοῦ. 13 διὸ αἰτοῦμαι μὴ ἐγκακεῖν ἐν ταῖς θλίψεσίν μου ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν, ἥτις ἐστὶν δόξα ὑμῶν. Ephesians 3:12-13 (NA28)

12 in whom we have the boldness and access in confidence through our faith in Him. 13 Therefore, I ask you not to give up over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory Ephesians 3:12-13 (translated from the NA28 Greek text)

In this post let us look at an important word from Ephesians 13 which many Bible translations render as ‘faint,’ ‘discouraged, ‘ or ‘lose heart.’ The words “not to give up” above translate μὴ ἐγκακεῖν. Μη (mē) expresses absolute denial. Paul is expressing his desire to the Ephesians that they DO NOT do something. Reading: Matthew 26:36-44

I used to think that Jesus agonised so much during his prayer at Gethsemane due to the impending beatings, scourging, lashing and crucifixion.  He was after all in human form, with flesh, blood and nerves.  But now I know—and it would also be the most sorrowful state for any of us unless we are reconciled to God.

The most sorrowful state we could be in is to be cut off from God (“Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?”).  That’s what happened to Jesus when He bore our filthy sins on the Cross, the collective transgressions of mankind from the past to the future.  God is holy, no one can be in His presence unless they are cleansed (“Cursed is everyone who is hanged on…

Act As If Your Bibles Will Be Burned

A reader recently wrote this in the comments section of one of my blogs: “Meanwhile, I suggest we start memorizing Scripture like never before. Then, when the Bibles are burned, we will have the Word of God still burning in our hearts.”

I concur! Her statement is based on the assumption that the U.S. is racing so far away from God that our political leaders will eventually enact laws forbidding reading, owning, and purchasing Bibles. If this happens, Bibles would be taken and burned, hence my friend’s counsel.

If believers knew for certain our Bibles were going to be confiscated, we should indeed begin memorizing large chunks of Scripture, and, I would add, reading the Bible in ample portions. This is the right attitude, and my blogger friend nailed it.

But, let me present a counter scenario. What if God spoke to every believer…
